Supervisor Runion’s tenure as supervisor, which began in 2000, has been marked by significant spending increases and a greater tax burden on town residents and businesses.
In the 2009 budget, he and fellow town board members Pat Slavick and Paul Pastore voted to raise property taxes by four percent and boost town fees by 20 percent. Those fees span nearly every activity involving the town --- higher fees for permits, parks, garbage, etc.
Even though the Town benefitted from a 53 percent jump in sales tax revenue from 1999-2007, that $3.5 million windfall was squandered. Town spending jumped by nearly $10 million in that same time frame, a 45 percent hike.
