A sworn statement by Linda Dygert, Chief Murley’s administrative secretary for more than five years (March 1998 to April 2003), describes Chief Murley as a “predator.” Dygert lists a number of disturbing sexual harassment allegations and writes, “I would never want to be alone with him in the same room.”

Dygert also states that she “often felt fearful that if I said anything to him about his sexual harassment there would be some retribution to either myself or my family.”

Though Dygert’s tenure with Murley was from 1998 – 2003, Chief Murley remained in his post until 2007. He resigned with full pension benefits.

When Ken Runion was first elected town supervisor back in November 1999, he told an election night crowd, “Without Debra Murley (the Chief’s wife), the results would have been just the opposite” (see Altamont Enterprise article - jpg image below).

To this day, the sexual harassment issue remains unresolved. Despite a Freedom of Information Law request, the Town of Guilderland refuses to release a single document involving the Murley investigation.
